My story. My Vision.
Ok, so I got hit by a truck at work right before Christmas. I had to choose between getting home to the kids, or going to the hospital.
Hospital will be there in January, but Christmas will be gone. Come New Year's, I was barely able to walk due to the muscle spasms.
Finally went to see doc in January 27th. On the CT scan, doc found suspected Thyroid Cancer. I got a tattoo saying PhuckCancer (ask my Baby Mama in law for pictures) and registered this domain with the goal of creating a nonprofit to help cancer patients and their families. I wanted to see my struggles and tailor the programs towards that.
Biopsy came back inconclusive, but given the rate of growth from Jan to February to March, the decision was made to remove it surgically.
June 2nd I laid down to take a nap. Doc slit my throat while I slept. Thankfully I was in the hospital so I lived.
I went back to work June 26th. Started developing weird symptoms. Told Doc, got an appointment for followup in September 19th. we wanted to see if they went away on their own.
September 14th, I went to see the Birds beat up on the Vikings. In the 3rd quarter, I passed out and ended up a couple of rows down on top of people. Was completely drenched in sweat, finished the game because "phuck you, those tickets are expensive AF"
I go to the doctor appointment and he admitted me to the hospital. Turns out the cancer/surgery gave me autoimmune diabetes. Apparently pretty rare in adults. No cure, but it's manageable. I will be insulin dependent. Federal safety regulations pretty much disqualify me from taking insulin while I drive.
I lost two months of work fighting to get off the insulin and back to work in time to provide one of the best Christmas's my kids have ever had. Granted I was working through Thanksgiving, and all the way up to 6pm on Christmas Eve. Strict diet, and exercise routine are my current treatment. Doc says that I bought some time, but likely no more than a year. But this Thanksgiving I was definitely grateful for the ability to work and provide for my family.
So that lead me to the ultimate goal for my non profit. Figure out a way to help cancer survivors that lost their jobs due to cancer and it's residuals replace their income. Not a hand out, but a hand up.
A huge project on that list is affordable housing solutions. My thoughts are that instead of directly replacing all their income through direct employment, we can help to lower the cost of living.
Some other ideas I would like to implement are:
A) Food Service Establishments/Franchises
B) Clothing designs and sales
C) Workplace safety devices and signage
D) Renewable Energy Projects
E) Farming
I'm definitely open to ideas, and will consider suggestions submitted to me. All suggestions are considered donations, and will not be subject to any compensation unless otherwise agreed to in writing.
